Matchaa is built to help people find their next best friend, IRL. We take your privacy seriously — this policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how you stay in control.

Who We Are
Matchaa ("we", "us", "our") is a platonic friendship app designed to help people find genuine real-world connections. Launching in Melbourne, built for everywhere. This Privacy Policy applies to the Matchaa mobile application and any related services.

Information We Collect
We collect information you give us directly and some information automatically when you use the app.
Account information
Your name, email address, age, gender, profile photo, bio, interests, and activities.
Location information
Your suburb and city, and optionally your precise GPS coordinates, used to show you nearby people and calculate distances in the discover feed. You control whether your location is shown to other users via the privacy settings in the app.
Content you create
Messages you send, groups you join, and any other content you post within the app.
Device information
Push notification tokens, device type, and operating system — used only to deliver notifications to your device.
Usage data
Which features you use and when, to help us improve the app. We do not sell this data.

How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account
- To show you relevant people nearby based on your location and interests
- To deliver messages and notifications
- To verify your identity (email verification)
- To keep the community safe — enforcing our safety policies and responding to reports
- To improve and develop the app
We do not use your data for advertising. Matchaa is ad-free.

What We Share
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited information only in these circumstances:
- Other users: Your public profile (name, photo, suburb, city, interests) is visible to other Matchaa users. Your email address is never shown to other users.
- Service providers: We use Supabase for database and authentication, and Expo/Apple for push notifications. These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and data processing agreements.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

Camera & Photo Library
Matchaa requests access to your camera and photo library solely to allow you to upload a profile photo. We never access your camera or photos without your explicit action. Photos are stored securely and only used to display your profile.

Location Access
Matchaa may request access to your device location to detect your current suburb for the discover feed and profile setup. We only access your location when you explicitly tap "Use my current location." You can update or remove your location at any time in your profile settings. Precise location is never shared with other users — only your suburb and city are visible.

Push Notifications
We send push notifications to let you know about new matches, messages, and activity. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings. We do not use notifications for marketing or advertising.

Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, messages, and all associated data within 30 days. Some data may be retained longer where required by law.

Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Export your data
- Withdraw consent at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@matchaa.app or use the delete account option within the app.

Children's Privacy
Matchaa is intended for users aged 17 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If we become aware that a user is under 17, we will immediately terminate their account and delete their data.

Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), secure authentication via Supabase, and row-level security on all database tables. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take every reasonable precaution to protect your data.

Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes through the app. The date at the top of this page always reflects when it was last updated.
