Matchaa ("we", "us", "our") is a social networking app designed to help expatriates and travellers find community. This Privacy Policy applies to the Matchaa mobile application and any related services.

Information We Collect
We collect information you give us directly and some information automatically when you use the app.
Account information
Your name, username, email address, phone number, age, gender, home country, current city, profile photo, bio, interests, and languages.
Content you create
Messages you send, events you create, groups you join, and any other content you post within the app.
Device information
Push notification tokens, device type, and operating system — used only to deliver notifications to your device.
Usage data
Which features you use and when, to help us improve the app. We do not sell this data.

- To show you relevant people and events near you
- To deliver messages and notifications
- To verify your identity (phone verification)
- To keep the community safe — enforcing our safety policies and responding to reports
- To improve and develop the app
We do not use your data for advertising. Matchaa is ad-free.

What We Share
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited information only in these circumstances:
- Other users: Your public profile (name, username, photo, city, interests) is visible to other Matchaa users. Your email and phone number are never shown to other users.
- Service providers: We use Supabase for database and authentication, Twilio for SMS verification, and Expo/Apple/Google for push notifications. These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and data processing agreements.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

Camera & Photo Library
Matchaa requests access to your camera and photo library solely to allow you to upload a profile photo. We never access your camera or photos without your explicit action. Photos are stored securely and only used to display your profile.

Push Notifications
We send push notifications to let you know about new matches, messages, and event updates. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings. We do not use notifications for marketing or advertising.

Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, messages, and all associated data within 30 days. Some data may be retained longer where required by law.

Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Export your data
- Withdraw consent at any time

Children's Privacy
Matchaa is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will immediately terminate their account and delete their data.

Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), secure authentication via Supabase, and row-level security on all database tables. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take every reasonable precaution to protect your data.

Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes through the app. The date at the top of this page always reflects when it was last updated.
